In June we met with representatives from the City of Toronto’s Ward 13 Councillor Chris Moise’s office and the City of Toronto Parks & Recreation Partnerships team to finalize the timeline for the Winchester Park “Four Seasons” themed Pebble Mosaic. We’re thrilled to share that the project will be brought to life this summer and fall.
This new public artwork will consist of four pebble mosaics—each 3 feet in diameter—installed at the four corners of Winchester Park. Each piece will be accompanied by a cluster of stone benches, enhancing the park’s seating and making the space more welcoming for everyone.
We are honoured that this initiative was proposed by the St. James Town Residents Council through Councillor Moise’s Ward 13 Participatory Budgeting process—a powerful example of community-led decision-making where residents propose and vote on how local funds are spent.
Over the past 20 years, ReDefine Arts has travelled from Yellowknife, NWT to Regina, SK, and Kenora, ON, bringing performances and public art to communities across the country. Yet we always find ourselves drawn back to Winchester Park—our home, and the site of our very first pebble mosaic, Cornerstone*, in Winchester Square Park.
Starting in July and running through October, we’ll be offering opportunities for local residents to contribute to the design, creation, and unveiling of the mosaic. More details can be found here: https://tr.ee/p5cGVt.
We hope you’ll join us this summer!
