For more than 30,000 years, people from every culture—past and present—have looked up at the same night sky. In its stars, they have seen stories, shaped constellations, and drawn meaning through their own traditions and ways of understanding the world.

Many Peoples Under One Sky is a public artwork consisting of 4 pebble mosaics, each 1.5 metres in diameter, installed in the four corners of Winchester Park and surrounded by stone seating. The mosaic designs reflect the ideas and stories of local residents, inspired by the stars and constellations in the night sky throughout the four seasons.

Many Peoples Under One Sky was led and produced by ReDefine Arts, and initiated by the St. James Town Residents Council through Ward 13 – Toronto Centre’s 2024 Participatory Budgeting process. The project was made possible with support from the City of Toronto’s Section 37 Community Benefits.

This artwork celebrates the spirit of Winchester Park and the surrounding St. James Town community—often described as a “World Within a Block”—where people from around the world live together under one sky.
