Artist Megan Spencer collaborated with over 40 Renfrew County youth to design and create a ceramic and glass mosaic public artwork, within a community arts model, and supported by artistic and project development mentorship from Anna Camilleri (ReDefine Arts). During the research and relationship-building phase, Megan Spencer and artist intern Kat Belaire met with the youth community in Pembroke to learn about their lives and gather ideas for the mural design through arts based research methods. Megan drew inspiration from the emerging images and motifs to develop a series of design concepts that youth participants engaged with in a collaborative design process. The mosaic mural was built during weekly open studio sessions spanning three months.
