Please join artists Anna Camilleri, Wy Joung Kou, and special guests from The Epic Choir on January 19 from 6-8pm EST at the Urban Space Gallery (401 Richmond St W) to celebrate the closing of HELD!
As part of this exhibition, the artists invited community members to participate in a collaborative creative process by responding to the prompt: What visions for disability futures do you hold close or carry forward? All submissions have since been collected by Camilleri and Kou to craft a collective poem, combining their own contributions with the reflections from the community members. A reading of this poem will take place at the closing celebration.
The event will also feature performances by The Epic Choir: proudly composed of trans, non-binary, Two-Spirit, and gender queer singers, The Epic Choir disrupts gendered aspects of choral music and gender normative pedagogy that excludes trans and gender non-conforming people from realms of composition, arrangement, and singing.
This FREE hybrid event will take place in the Urban Space Gallery, on the ground floor of the 401 Richmond building - just down the hall from Tangled Art + Disability (Suite 124). The event will also be live streamed via Zoom. RSVP only required if accessing the event via Zoom. Link here: https://bit.ly/3TkBw6Y

HELD is an immersive visual-tactile exhibition presented by Tangled Art + Disability, in partnership with ReDefine Arts, from November 17, 2023 to January 26, 2024. Composed of multiple works within a shared ecosystem, HELD asks: What futures await our queer, disabled bodies? What sustainable futures can we co-create together? What visions for disability futures do you hold close or carry forward? Together, the artworks in this exhibition facilitate a conversation about futurity. They present a utopic convergence of disability futures that hold worlds of possibility for us individually and collectively.
HELD was made possible by the financial support of the Ontario Arts Council, the Government of Ontario, and Toronto Arts Council (Craft, Exhibition Assistance and Visual Arts programs).
