Unscripted first began its programming in 2021, hoping to amplify the work of artists who creatively engage with elements of sensory-based, linguistic and cultural accessibility. Co-curated by Wy Joung Kou & Becky Gold, Unscripted now exists to bring voice and conversation to a wide range of intersectional understandings and practices surrounding accessibility, community and kinship.

The first iteration of Unscripted, Unscripted: Cultivating Languages of Access & Storytelling (co-produced by ReDefine Arts & Theatre Passe Muraille with panel coordination by Rinchen Dolma, and support from TD Bank Group, Ontario Arts Council, & Toronto Arts Council) was an online panel series that took place in April 2021, delving into accessibility, decolonization and various approaches to performance and storytelling.

The next form of Unscripted is KINSHIP. KINSHIP is a three-part podcast series exploring themes of interdependence, care and kinship in the arts. Each episode, hosted by Angela Sun, welcomes a different artistic collective to engage in conversation about how they are reimagining artistic collaboration in ways that embrace these themes as well as how relationships and radical reciprocity have been integral to the development of their collective’s unique creative processes. Episodes were released in June 2022 and included conversations with three guest artist collectives: The Countdown Public Art Project, The Switch Collective, and Bricks & Glitter.

KINSHIP is a ReDefine Arts production, co-curated by Becky Gold and Wy Joung Kou with digital producer Megan Wilk, and generously supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, & Toronto Arts Council.
