Flux is a community-engaged public artwork located in the heart of downtown Toronto. More than 300 community members that intersect through the 519 Church Street Community Centre contributed to the conceptual development, design, and production of this artwork. At eleven arts-based research sessions, ideas were explored and mapped through discussion and the creation of seventy-five sketches that embodied themes: a desire to firmly anchor the work in diversity and inclusion, LGBTQ2S+ activism and resistance, honouring of community members who have passed, and looking ahead to the future. The final design was produced by Anna Camilleri through a collaborative design process. The mosaic was built in the community with more than 2000 volunteer hours invested into its creation.

Flux was led by artists Anna Camilleri and Tristan R. Whiston with community art interns Heidi Cho, Rafaela Dominici Vidinha, Tamara Perez Mucino, and Ingrid Vellekoop.

A City of Toronto agency, registered charity, and community centre, The 519 is committed to the health, happiness and full participation of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities in Toronto and beyond - through service, space, and leadership.
