Join Central Toronto Youth Services (CTYS) and ReDefine Arts (RDA) for Tending the Roots: Postcards of Connection, a new art-making workshop series for advocates and activists supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and families across Turtle Island.

WHAT

Four 2-hour workshops led by CTYS and RDA, with facilitation from artists jaye simpson (she/they), Jody Chan (they/them), Liana Cusmano (they/them), and Zena Lord (she/her).

Workshop attendees will receive a Postcard Activity Kit that includes art supplies and activities to use in the workshops, on their own, and/or with clients. There will be an opportunity to share postcards created in the workshops with colleagues across Canada.

WHO

These workshops are for mental health professionals, housing and community workers, staff and anyone who works (or could work) with 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and their families.

WHY

In an increasingly isolated non-profit ecosystem, Tending the Roots makes space for advocates and activists supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and families to come together, connect with each other through art-making, and consider ways to provide mutual support within and across agencies.

Q: I can’t make the whole workshop, can I still attend?
A: Yes! Please join for any amount of time you are able.

Q: Can I attend more than one workshop?
A: Yes! We will hold 4 online workshops in November and December 2024. Please join as often as you like.

Q: I can’t make it to any workshops, can I still request an arts activity kit?
A: Yes! While we would love to connect at the workshops, the kit can be used on its own as well.

Tending the Roots is a program developed by Central Toronto Youth Services’ Families in TRANSition team and agency partners to strategize around ongoing anti-oppressive decolonizing practices, creating opportunities for conversation and collaboration, supporting working groups, creating opportunities for co-mentorship and trainings, and more.
