Lanark County Interval House, ReDefine Arts and the Town of Smiths Falls are pleased to announce that the unveiling of the Smiths Falls Countdown pebble mosaic will take place on May 18th, 2023, at 6pm in the newly redeveloped Town Hall Square.

Designed and built in Summer 2022 via a community-engaged process with local residents and LCIHCS clients and staff, the mosaic was initially set to be unveiled on September 29, 2022. Despite great efforts by the Town of Smiths Falls, unanticipated sector strikes, labour shortages, and supply chain issues led to delays in the redevelopment of Smiths Falls Town Square. As such, the installation and unveiling was postponed to May 2023 - Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The location for this mosaic was carefully chosen; having the mosaic located in a central, public, accessible site demonstrates a commitment to ending gender-based violence and to providing opportunities for public education and ongoing conversation around this serious issue. The mosaic will act as a tangible representation of community action against gender-based violence.

The Countdown Public Art Project is an Ontario-wide arts initiative that works with communities to create monuments in public spaces to honour those affected by gender-based violence.

ReDefine Arts gratefully acknowledges project funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and support from our civic partner, Town of Smiths Falls.
